Children’s Drama Classes

 

The Gordon Craig Theatre Creative Kids

 3 - 4 year olds

Open to children and young people of all abilities our Creative Kids classes
cater for children aged 3 - 4 years old.

Discovering music, arts and crafts, movement and dance our classes          
focus on developing vocabulary, imagination, listening skills, social
skills and having fun! Classes run for three ten week terms, Autumn, Spring and Summer.

Classes cover a new theme each term, exploring and creating texts, music and even arts and crafts relevant to the children's ages. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to come and be part of a class at the end of each theme so that they can witness their child's artistic development.

 

Classes run on Saturday mornings from 11.15am - 12.15pm.

Gordon Craig Theatre Drama Classes - Little Stars

The Gordon Craig Theatre Little Stars

5- 6 year olds

Open to children and young people of all abilities our 'Little Stars' class cater for children aged 5 - 6 years old. Focussing on learning new words, developing vocabulary, greater imagination, listening skills, story telling and musical awareness classes run for three ten week terms, Autumn, Spring and Summer.

Classes cover a new theme each term, exploring texts, music and even arts and crafts relevant to the children's ages. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to come and be part of a class at the end of each theme so that they can witness their child's artistic development.

Students recieve a branded Academy t-shirt at enrolment as part of their fee.

Classes run on Saturday 10:00am - 11:00am.

Gordon Craig Theatre Drama Classes - Junior Academy

The Gordon Craig Theatre Junior Drama Academy

7 – 10 year olds

Our 'Junior Drama Academy' classes run for two hours each Tuesday evening for three ten-week terms, Autumn, Spring and Summer. Exploring and developing our young performers’ talents through diction, projection, characterisation and audition skills youngsters will be encouraged to go on to win parts in the end of term performances, to be held in our conference suites. All class members will win a place in the end-of-term show but there will be a logical progression with older or longer-serving members winning the lead roles because of their greater experience and training. Students will also be encouraged and trained to work towards qualifications.
The performance skills and audition technique training will also enable all students to be capable of auditioning for and winning places in our in-house theatrical productions.

Students receive a branded Academy t-shirt at enrolment as part of their fee.

Classes run from 5pm – 7pm every Tuesday evening.

Gordon Craig Theatre Drama Classes - Senior Academy

The Gordon Craig Theatre Senior Drama Academy

11 –18 year olds

The Gordon Craig Theatre Senior Drama Academy operates on three ten-week terms, Autumn, Spring and Summer. Throughout these terms classes work on developing core drama skills, diction, speech, projection, blocking, characterisation. The first few weeks will go into specific details and greater training on audition technique and understanding terminology so that all class members will audition for a role in the annual performance in April on the Gordon Craig stage, be it a musical or straight dramatic play.

All members win a role in the end-of-term show but there is a logical progression with older or longer-serving members winning the lead roles because of their greater experience and training.

Sessions are structured in a stage school format, developing each student’s core performance skills in dance, drama and singing.

As a member of the GCT Senior Academy all students recieve details of call times for closer to the show, information for classes and general theatre information as well as the application forms for in-house auditions. All members will also receive a branded Academy t-shirt.

Students also have the option of working towards an Arts Award certificate to count towards their UCAS points.

Classes run on Saturday afternoons from 2.00pm – 5.00pm & Wednesday 5:30pm - 8:30pm

Join the Gordon Craig Theatre for a History of Theatre Workshop!

Adaptable for all Key Stages our History of Theatre workshops explore the progression of theatre through performance and staging from Ancient Greece to modern day! Including a backstage tour of the Gordon Craig Theatre our two-hour workshop will not only demonstrate the developments in performance and theatrical styles but also the advancement of stagecraft and its technology! Demonstrating how the technical side of theatre has evolved through staging, lighting and sound our workshop is not only ideal for performers but also budding technicians. As an introduction to the theatre or to consolidate learning with hands-on experience your students will love every second of our workshop.

Leisure 50s classes

Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre offers a variety of activities for people aged 50 or over that run every week throughout the year. Ideal for people of all abilities classes cost only £3.50 and can be paid for at Box Office on the day of the class.

Education Courses for North Herts College

The Gordon Craig Theatre and North Herts College run a number of courses, ideal for the local community every term at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre. From Woodturning, Watercolour, Drawing and Painting for All, Life Drawing and Creative Writing there is sure to be a class for everyone.

Easter Musicals, Summer Musicals and Pantomime Workshops

To compliment our in-house productions we run workshops throughout the show’s run. For details regarding the specific workshops please contact the Education Department on 01438 242761.

Activity Days

Join the Education team over the school holidays to take part is a range of arts and sporting activities. With the option of dropping children off from 8.30am – 5.30pm at only £25 for the day or come along to either Activity 1 or Activity 3 for just £3.00, our dedicated team are fun loving, CRB checked and First Aid Trained!

Work Experience

The Gordon Craig Theatre offers a five-day work experience to students in full time education, in partnership with the Herts Careers Service. An ‘Arts and Events’ placement gives students a complete experience of the theatre to include the Press and Publicity, Backstage, Box Office and Front of House departments. A ‘Backstage’ placement will give students the opportunity to gain a full week’s work experience exclusive to the stage and technical aspects of the theatre.
